We hear more and more often about diabetes, one of the most common health challenges. The pace of life, stress, diet, fast food, lack of exercise and sleep can all affect blood glucose levels. It’s no wonder that modern technologies that help us manage our everyday lives are becoming increasingly important.
On World Diabetes Day 2025, which had the theme of “Diabetes at Work”, BIOTON employees – a company that has been producing insulin and protecting patients in Poland and around the world for over 25 years – experienced what life is like with a continuous glucose monitoring system first-hand. They experienced this not in theory, but in practice, in the realities of everyday life.
After just a few days with the CareSens Air, the outlook changes dramatically!
BIOTON employees have been testing the CareSens Air, a modern continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system that can monitor blood glucose levels for up to 15 days, for several days now. This small device sticks to the skin and discreetly measures blood glucose levels in the interstitial fluid.
In practice, it is like having a small window into your own body:
- You can check how you react to the meals you eat,
- whether stress can raise your glucose levels and, if so, by how much.
- You can also see what difference a brisk walk or workout makes.
For many participants, this was a surprising experience. They discovered that blood glucose levels change dynamically and that the body reacts instantly to the smallest decisions in everyday life. This gives you a whole new perspective on your own health.
Why is BIOTON involved in such activities? Because understanding patients means more than just producing medicines.
In Europe, the year 2025 is a time of intense discussion about drug safety and ensuring that key therapies are continuously available to those who need them. BIOTON is one of the few manufacturers that produces recombinant insulin in-house, from API to finished medicine.
However, true patient support involves more than just producing medicines. It means understanding their daily challenges and getting involved in disease prevention. This is why Bioton employees are testing blood glucose monitoring systems. They are building their awareness of healthy lifestyles and gaining a realistic view of the daily challenges faced by people with diabetes.
World Diabetes Day at BIOTON: putting knowledge, experience and technology into practice
The celebrations included training sessions, lectures and consultations, as well as workshops on how to use the CareSens Air system, which were the highlight of the day.
But why this system? Because it is:
- convenient: one sensor lasts up to 15 days;
- modern: it shows blood glucose data and trends in real time;
- practical: the app allows you to analyse, plan and better understand your body.
Even those who work with diabetes medications daily were surprised by the test results. Participants saw:
- how dynamically blood glucose levels can change, even in healthy people;
- how reassuring it is to have constant access to data about one’s own body;
- how technology can strongly increase metabolic awareness.
- how helpful simple graphs can be in nutrition education.
This experience has become an important part of BIOTON’s internal education because understanding patients begins with understanding their daily struggles. Furthermore, understanding how the body works and making everyday lifestyle changes based on CGM data can help to prevent diseases such as diabetes.
