World Diabetes Day has been celebrated for more than 100 years now on 14 November. This year, it was held under the theme “Education protects our tomorrow”, which emphasises the need to improve access to education about diabetes not only for people struggling with the disease, but also their loved ones and healthcare professionals as well.
Being aware of the importance of preventive measures and health education, at BIOTON we decided to celebrate World Diabetes Day by participating in educational lectures and workshops organised at the office and conducted by, among others, specialists in dietetics, physiotherapy and psychology. During the lectures, BIOTON employees were able to learn why physical activity is important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, how to maintain a mental balance in life and how sugar affects human health. During the lecture with Regional Scientific Information Coordinator, Mrs Agata Dousa-Szewczyk, the employees also had the opportunity to learn more about BIOTON’s efforts to take care of diabetic patients.
Physical activity is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, so in addition to attending a series of lectures, employees also had the opportunity to enjoy pilates, stretching and yoga classes, as well as work on their fitness at a stand with a shake-producing bike and relax their muscles during a physiotherapy massage. Naturally, there was also a stand where blood glucose levels could be measured.
We encourage everyone to check out the photo gallery of this year’s World Diabetes Day celebrations at BIOTON.
